In 2023 OSI continued to meet the challenge of protecting and promoting the value and integrity of the experiences, accomplishments, contributions of the unsung in Northern Nevada history.

February

Ken Dalton spoke at the 2nd Annual Capitol City Black History Program


Our Story, Inc. displayed and presented during the Nevada Black Caucus event at the Nevada Legislature


Our Story, Inc. & the Northern Nevada African American Firefighter Museum presented to the Women's History Project Group the history of Black Springs.


March

Presented to the Northern Nevada International Center group at the Westbrook Community Center & Northern Nevada African American Firefighter Museum.


April

Our Story, Inc., Northern Nevada African American Firefighter Museum, along with the first black firefighters hired on the City of Reno were honored by the City of Reno.


May

Our Story, Inc. & the Northern Nevada African American Firefighter Museum received the 2023 Historic Preservation Award from the City of Reno


September

Recognized Janet Serial as Our Story, Inc.'s  "Walk the Walk and Talk the Talk" person of 2023 for her tireless community work.


Attended and was on the panel of Nevada Humanities premiere public screening of "A Black Springs Homecoming: Finding History" at the Nevada Museum of Art.


October

Our Story, Inc. & the Northern Nevada African American Firefighter Museum collaborated with the Northern Nevada International Center to host 11 delegates (majority of the international visitors were firefighters/dispatchers) visiting the United States from other countries. They joined us for a morning of Black Springs history and firefighter appreciation.



We are excited to see what 2024 holds for us!!!!

Our Story, Inc. would like to extend a heart felt thank you to all who contributed their time, finances, artifacts, stories, muscle, and encouragement as we continue to share the stories of the unsung.


A special thank you to our volunteers, Noah Levingston, Helen Townsell, Alicia Barber, Washoe County, Nevada Humanities and the Firematic Group of Northern Nevada.


We will continue to take our mission to new levels and are proud to be a vessel that shares the historic accomplishments of individuals seldom mentioned and rarely taught in public  venues.
